When: June 2006

Charm, location, and good service. {3 stars}

We like to stay in a different area each time we return to Paris so we can explore the city "bit by bit." We like a bit of luxury but we know Paris will yield smaller hotels, often without air conditioning, and we aren't willing to pay the price for the really luxurious ones!

So we started exploring on the internet in the winter for our June 2006 stay and found a very good deal for the Hotel Kleber in the 16th, an area we didn't think we could affort to stay in. The internet winter rate for a double with a king size bed (also rare in Paris!) and a jacuzzi tub bathroom was 136 euros.

The location was fabulous: walkable to several metro stops, surrounded by charming cafes, an easy walk to the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, and a nice long walk to Parc Monceau and the Bois. The room was charming, though a bit quirky (the big bed was welcome but it didn't leave much negotiating room around it, and you need to remember to lock your door both inside and when you leave with your room key).

It was quiet, tidy, and the lobby itself had charm. The staff couldn't have been more helpful: they made dinner reservations for us, printed out map directions, and were in every way civil and serviceable. If you can get a good rate, I think you'll enjoy this space. We did.
