I took my father (a WWII vet) to Bayeux to see the Bayeux Tapestry and visit the American cemetery and landing beaches. Many hotels were closed in January, so I selected Lion d'or. It is an easy walk to many restaurants, as well as the Bayeux Tapestry and the imposing cathedral. In the charming bar, you can see photographs of the many famous people who have been here (Eisenhower, the Kennedys, John Wayne). The rooms are rather basic and a little shopworn, but they were comfortable and the bathroom is fairly modern. We got an off-season rate of 128 euros per room, plus 3-course dinner and breakfast. The restaurant is fairly good, although I probably wouldn't come just here for a meal. I usually don't take breakfast in hotels, but this was exceptionally large, with tons of options. We never ate lunch while here. I'd stay here again, but would probably try one of the other hotels in the old town next time.
