The hotel itself is on the side of a small road next to a small river. The place has been decked out in a way that all traces of the small fishing inn it was have been erased and instead the owners have instead created an erstwhile mini-chateau. Our room was decorated with brass plates on the doors, gilding on the furniture and marble in the bath. Yet there was nothing about the room that was particularly welcoming or remarkable. The restaurant's staff was very friendly. However, the food, like the room was overpriced. The meat in my husband's venison stew was so dry that he couldn't eat it and my oysters were covered with a too-rich bearnaise. To the restaurant's credit, they substituted fish for the inedible venison. We were served small fancy dishes that were pleasing but just over the top. We were disappointed with the experience - especially since our one night stay (in the most basic room) and our one meal in the restaurant cost nearly the same as we spent for a whole week cost at the lovely gite we stayed in on the same trip.
