Marignane: Ibis - Marseille Aeroport

Reviewed by: Kaydee from TN, review #2419

When: Several times (most recent - Sept 2008)

Comfortable and reasonably-priced chain hotel at the Marseille airport. Early morning shuttle beginning at 5 am. Restaurant.

We stay at the Marseille airport a couple of times a year, as we normally take an early morning flight back to the USA. This is the third hotel I've reviewed at the airport. The Ibis is now likely where my husband and I will stay when it's just the two of us, especially if we have a 6 am or 6:30 am flight. We do like the price, and since we really just need a place to sleep for a few hours, we'd rather not spend a lot of money.

The Ibis is one of several hotels located right at the airport, and you could actually walk to the terminal in 10 minutes. Their shuttle begins at 5:00 am (earlier than the nearby Best Western, which I've also reviewed) and takes about three minutes.

Our normal routine is to arrive in the early evening, check in and drop off our luggage, return the rental car, walk back to the hotel (or you could take the shuttle), and have dinner. Then in the morning we take the shuttle.

Ibis is an international chain with over 800 hotels, 375+ of which are in France. It is owned by Accor Hotels, which owns other chains addressing various price points including Sofitel, Novatel, Mercure, Etap, and Motel 6. Ibis is a budget cookie-cutter property, but definitely a step up from Etap (see my Slow Travel review).

The room is small, but comfortable and clean, and the bathroom is ample. You can request one bed or two twins. We paid 50.54 euro (including tax) for our stay in September 2008, with an advance purchase rate on the internet.

I believe that you can request a rollaway for a child, but the room would be extremely crowded.

The hotel does have a bar and a chain restaurant called Courtepaille. The restaurant features grilled meat. The food is decent, the prices are reasonable, the atmosphere is friendly, and the service is efficient. If you are looking for something more special for your last night in France, you can always go into Aix by shuttle or take your rental car.
