Le Cheval Noir is a wonderful, modern restaurant in Beaune, just a few blocks from the Hotel Dieu and directly across the street from Jardin des Remparts, but much more moderately priced. Don't judge by the restaurant's exterior, which is nondescript. The decor is modern - almost minimalistic. The food is imaginative, delicious and artistically presented. The staff is extremely accommodating. The prix fixe menu offered terrine of foie gras as an entree but I was able to substitute foie gras poele with no additional charge. This is not bistro food but true gourmet dining. We also tried Ma Cuisine and Le Petit Paradis in Beaune but Le Cheval Noir was far superior. Do not confuse it with Le Cheval Blanc, another restaurant in Beaune. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
