Creative food and a very warm welcome in an in-town bistro popular with the French.

Directions: across from the cathedral

The restaurant is attractive inside and out across from the cathedral, with the interior decor very simple. Warm colors give a bit of a Mediterranean feel.

Set-price meals started at 15 euros, at lunch only. Most of our party dined (in the evening) from the 22 euro menu. Entrees included a foie gras-fruit tureen seasoned with cumin, fresh and delicious. Most of our party had mixed salads, not on the menu but provided with no fuss and super fresh. Two of us had mignons of pork, very nice, cod, and quail. The presentation was fine. Very attractive with a touch of whimsy on the plate.

Wonderful welcome from Delphine, who waited on us. She was all smiles and flirted, in limited English, with one of our traveling companions twice her age. Her husband Yannick is the chef.

Dessert orders should all be given when you order appetizers and main courses. (In fact, it's more complicated than that. Some must be and others not and some of them still may be ordered later but then no longer a part of the fixed price menu. But unless you are near-fluent in French don't go there.)

We did not have coffee but nevertheless were served with a a little dish of post-dessert treats.

By the way, there is seating for 22 people. We reserved about an hour and a half before dinner time on a week night and received the last six seats, and I wouldn't count on dining there if I arrived unannounced. One French dining Web site based on customer reviews gives the place five out of five stars.

The restaurant is 100 percent nonsmoking. I would go there again - tonight if possible.
