Aux Armes de France is often recommended for visitors near Colmar. It's an attractive Bib Gourmand, but the food and service are not up to the decor.

We visited Aux Armes de France based on a number of recommendations harvested from various travel sites.

It's a large, attractive place that's quite popular. The surroundings are impressively furnished, but the rest of the package falls short of the decor. Some of the dishes we were served were outstanding, though a number were ho-hum. The welcome and service were largely mechanical. The timing of service was odd and there were often lengthy waits in-between.

After the initially favorable impression we got, things went downhill quickly, especially in comparison with Hotel-Restaurant Elisabeth in La Vancelle, which we had visited several days earlier.

About halfway through our meal, the eight of us unanimously concluded that Aux Armes simply couldn't hold a candle to Elisabeth. It just wasn't special. Approximate cost: 35 euros per person.
