Pleasant museum cafe with comfortable terrace and splendid view.

I’d often wondered about this place because the outside terrace area (with its full-on view of I.M. Pei’s striking pyramide) really appealed to me, but I was afraid that due to its prime location, the management would not really feel the need to “try” vis-à-vis food and service.

I was pleased and surprised to see that in spite of the chilly weather on this February afternoon, they were not only serving on the terrace, but that there was one table left there for us. They had these large, moveable overhead heaters that kept us warm so the cold was not an issue. We each ordered a pasta dish. My wife and our friend each had the penne in a tomato sauce, while I enjoyed a rigatoni with morels and truffle oil. My wife also ordered a side of haricot verts which we all ended up sharing. The pastas weren’t terribly memorable really, but they weren’t bad either. Kinda like something a friend might whip up for you at home, in a pinch.

However, the conversation over two bottles of wine on that terrace WAS memorable and very enjoyable. It was so enjoyable and relaxing in fact, that we probably spent a wee bit too much time there. In any event, if your expectations regarding the food are in check, I'd say that Cafe Marly is a fine place to unwind and refuel before hitting the streets of Paris yet again.
