Gigot that melts in your mouth

Directions: In the small village of Bougayrou, north of Lacave

And that's not all. How can potatoes - POTATOES ! - be so good? This authetic ferme-auberge has a very limited menu. But having a limited menu is a positive sign for a ferme-auberge. It means the ingredients come from the farm itself. Remembering how the juicy gigot d'agneau that could be cut with just a fork, I am sure the animal was alive and kicking not that long ago.

The menu has a typical regional start, a wonderful vegetable soup. We knew better. We knew we should save our stomach for later goodies, but the soup was so good we all had seconds, some thirds.

For a region with such good food, its bread and its wines are not its fortes. But this place again stands out. Even the bread is good.

Dessert: we all went for the evanescent ïle flottante, just the perfect coda for the rich meal.

Last but not least, many fermes-auberges - autthencity oblige - do not put much care in its interior. But this place is again different. Yes, it is a farm but the interior of the 14th century old structure is charming in its simplicity. Terrace dining on a sunny day is even better.

It is one of my "pilgrimage" stops every time I go to the Dordogne-Lot area.

3-course lunch with mineral water: €56. No credit card. Book a good 10 days or 2 weeks in advance in the summer.
