Elisabeth is a newly minted Michelin Bib Gourmand that's among the most enjoyable dining experiences one is likely to have in the southern part of Alsace.

We arrived at Hotel-Restaurant Elisabeth just before 7 p.m. via the scenic route and, much to our dismay, found the door locked. Not to worry. After a knock or two, one of the owners came to our rescue, told us that dinner began at 7:30 p.m., and welcomed us in. Over the next three hours, we had a most pleasant and delicious meal, well attended by the staff and visited twice by the chef.

All things considered, it was a notch better than most Bib Gourmands we had visited and quite close to what one would expect at the one-star level. From start to finish, we received a warm welcome, outstanding service, and unusually well-prepared food. Including wine, the per-person price was in the area of 35 euros.

This is a talented chef and a destination well worth a visit. It was the highlight of our latest visit to the area.
