Very friendly little restaurant overlooking Lodève's main square: popular with the locals.

The restaurant is just by Lodève’s main square: plenty of nicely shaded tables overlook the square. There were several menus, with the cheapest at €17.50, which I chose. It had been a long, hot morning, so I accepted the suggestion of an aperitif, and ordered a Kir, which arrived with some nicely piquant marinated olives.

My starter was a Salade d’avocat aux anchois: a nice idea, with anchovy fillets wrapped round a sliced avocado half, all on a bed of lettuce, and dressed with a light vinaigrette. The sharpness of the anchovies is a nice foil for the richness of the avocado.

The main was described as Tajine d’agneau aux prunes, though there was nothing particularly North African in its spicing. But this was a good slow-cooked and succulent lamb shank, with a sweetly rich sauce. Served with a pomme vapeur and some carrots. A simple but good crème caramel rounded the meal off nicely. The Kir and the ¼ of red were €3 each: total €23.50. Very friendly and efficient service. The place seems very popular with the locals: it was full up by 12.45. All French, apart from one other English couple.
