Hearty cuisine, expansive wine list and warm atmosphere in the 11eme.

We chose this restaurant because we needed a table late on a Saturday night in the 11eme and friends have liked it. We really wanted to love Le Villaret because the welcome was very warm and inviting and the products are quite good, but our experience was just OK.

First, they were out of a number of items, which we learned upon ordering (prefer to be notified upfront). Our biggest complaint is the execution of the dishes we chose didn't live up to the ambitious descriptions. My husband's andouillette of pied du porc (pig's trotter) was a lackluster sausage-shaped item, which he felt was just uninteresting (however it was accompanied by splendid puree of potatoes with black truffle). My starter of galette of chèvre was pretty and interesting since vegetables were used as the "pastry," but it was frankly unexciting. Our dessert was again ambitious looking - a flan with grilled plantains and various accompaniments - but we've made better flans and creme caramels at home and the plantains weren't fully cooked.

In short, I wouldn't go a distance to eat here again, but if I'm in the neighborhood I might give it a chance at lunch.
