Four of us dined at Mon Vieil Ami on our last evening in Paris on October 27, 2006. A "second", 45-seat restaurant of Strasbourg's 3-star chef Antoine Westermann, Mon Vieil Ami is under the direction of Antony Clémot.

The complimentary glass of Alsace Pinot Blanc after being seated at a long communal table was a nice touch. There are also several individual tables in the restaurant, but sitting at a long raised table was a unique experience. On one side of us was a British family on a half-term break and on the other was a Parisian couple dining at a local restaurant.

The service was OK, but a bit inefficient. We had difficulty in getting noticed a couple of times. I think part of the problem may be the layout of the restaurant.

Our meal was very good. We had Mijotée de Légumes (2), Poulette Farcie (2) and Paleron de Boeuf (2), Our liquids included 2 bottles of Chateau Le Roc '03 and expresso. The total was 156€00.

If you are staying in the area of Ile Saint Louis and/or want to experience a relatively inexpensive meal in a "restaurant gastronomique", Mon Vieil Ami would be a good choice. However, while I have given this a positive recommendation, I do not think we will return to Mon Vieil Ami in future visits to Paris. It offers a slightly unique experience, which we enjoyed, but there are so many other restaurants we would like to try.
