5bed/5 bath house near St. Remy, Provence

September 2002, 1 week

PR320 ST. REMY/ Ave. Antoine la Salle. The house is about a mile outside St. Remy. It was very quiet and pretty. There were olive trees in the yard as well as lavender. The yard was quite large so we never heard or saw any neighbors.

Nearby Amenities

While you could walk the mile into St Remy, we always drove. There are all kinds of shops in St Remy. The grocery store is in on the opposite side of St Remy so you need a car to get there. There are many restaurants in town as well as small cafes.

The House/Apartment

The building was in great shape. I believe it had been remodeled not that long ago. One of the shutters came unlatched in the night with heavy winds so there was some banging until we figured out how to relatch it but it wasn't a problem. The property is gated as well.

The grounds were well maintained. There was lavendar and olive trees throughout the yard. The pool was beautiful but it was too cold for us to go in.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

All the furniture was in great shape and the house was clean. Leather sofas in the living room, a beautiful dining room with plenty of seating, and very modern kitchen. The beds were large and comfortable.

The bedrooms were great. Four bedrooms were on the second floor and one bedroom on the first floor. The first floor bedroom is right off the livingroom and does not have its own bath so not as ideal so we gave it to the kids. All the other bedrooms are large and comfortable with their own bathrooms. One of the bathrooms had tub only and some had tub/shower.

The kitchen was great. Had all the pans and dishes you need for cooking full meals. There is a dishwasher which was great.

Problems or Bonuses

The barbeque outside was awesome! It was unseasonably cold when we were there (we needed to buy winter jackets in September!) so sitting by the wood burning BBQ was a great way to wind down the night.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

My brother-in-law booked the house so I can't speak to the quality of the agency. The onsite person was nice but only spoke French. Fortunately my sister-in-law speaks French.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Yes, I would recommend this rental. It is in a great location and the house was very comfortable for a large group. We had 8 adults and 3 kids and had no problem with space.

Things to do in this area

Not far from the rental is Glanum. It is an anciet ruin which was just amazing. Les Baux is about a 20 minute drive. We went to the oil coop in Maussane-les-Alpilles which was interesting ... there are also some great restaurants near the coop. It is about a 30 minute drive. You can spend time in St. Remy as well.
