2bed apartment in Montmartre, Paris WhenDecember 2004, 20 days LocationThis apartment was in a very nice older (19th century?) building on a lovely curving street in Montmartre. Third floor, with lift. It was just a few minutes walk from the Lamarck-Caulincourt subway stop, and also within a few blocks of the wonderful Rue Lepic market street. This area of Montmartre is not touristy, but had all the amenities one could ask for. Nearby AmenitiesOn Rue Calincourt, which was just down some steps from Avenue Junot, was a wonderful boulangerie, numerous cafes, several small grocery stores, and all manner of shops. A few blocks away was Avenue Lepic, with its delicious specialty food stores, and then beyond that, the lively, more touristy area for which Montmartre is well known. We walked everywhere in Montmartre, and really enjoyed discovering the area. Only took the subway when we wanted to leave the neighborhood. We found that we enjoyed being in a bit quieter area than some of the other, more central areas of Paris. The House/ApartmentThe building was 6 stories high, with two apartments per floor. Ours had parquet floors, a spacious living room, dining room, well-equipped kitchen with washing machine and dishwasher, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Long windows overlooking street on one side and courtyard on the other. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasEverything was in good shape and the apartment was very comfortable and clean. Plenty or room to sit down for dinner or to lounge in the living room. Bedrooms/BathroomsMaster bedroom had a queen size bed and the second bedroom had a single bed. Both were comfortable and good sized. Two bathrooms, one very small, the other quite spacious and modern. One separate lavatory. KitchenVery usable kitchen, not large, but entirely adequate and very well-stocked. Problems or BonusesIt would have helped if there were written instructions on how to use the washing machine and the oven. We had trouble with both and had to call the owner, who was very responsive and gracious about it. Agency and Representatives (and price)The agency was very easy and prompt to deal with, and the onsite person, a daughter of the owners, met us and spoke excellent English. We had her cell phone number and she responded promptly to any inquiry we had. The price was high, but given that it was Christmas, we were a bit limited in even finding a place that was large enough and available. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Definitely yes. Truly loved the neighborhood. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
