Vacation rentals in France (farms, cottages, gites, apartments)
Review 1446: Owner, VRBO #15500
1bed/1bath apartment in the 7th Arr., Paris
May 22 - May 24, 2005, 8, but stayed for 2
Apartments in Paris 7, Eiffel Tower, Champs De Mars, Rue Cler.
Apartment is in Paris' 7th Arr. in the Rue Cler neighborhood. Excellent location.
Supermarket, restaurants, post office and pedestrian market street at your doorstep.
Apartment located on 2nd floor of building. Quiet neighborhood. Building itself in good shape. Small lift available.
No outdoor area available.
Apartment had not been cleaned from previous occupants when we met the agent to check-in. The smell was horrible. We were asked to leave for two hours to have the apartment cleaned. Several furniture items were broken, TV did not work, and futon cover was dirty.
Bed linens were uncomfortable. Shower was very, very small. (We are seasoned Europe travellers and quite aware of the "differences" in amenities.) Only three towels provided for an 8 day stay for 3 people -- no towel mat, hand towel, etc.
Did not use kitchen -- not appealing.
Problems or Bonuses
Not having the apartment clean upon check-in was a huge surprise! There was no soap provided in kitchen or bathroom and only half a roll of toilet paper for an 8 day rental!
Due to excema and allergies both the bed linens and mildew/mold in the bathroom made this apartment very uncomfortable for me to stay here. We actually contacted the agent to let him know we needed to check out early as we had to move to a hotel. We were asked to meet him in the apartment the next day where we were accused of flooding the apartment and causing costly repairs to the flooring. These accusations were absolutely false!
Agency and Representatives (and price)
We were treated very, very poorly after arriving in Paris. The agent made up lies about us flooding the floor -- there was absolutely no damage to the floors -- and demanded money for the next week saying that he would lose out on renting the apartment because repairs needed to be made. When my husband refused (we had already paid the 785 euros for 8 nights, plus a 350 euro damage deposit) he threatened to call the police and have my husband thrown in jail. Now, he has refused to return our damage deposit.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Absolutely do not stay in this apartment. We have travelled to Paris and stayed in this area 3 times in the last 4 years. We love Rue Cler and thought renting an apartment would be a fun way to go. These apartment owners and their agent made for a miserable experience.
Rue Cler is a fabulous area and we can recommend a number of good hotels in the area.
