2bed/1bath gite in Saint Sernin du Plain, Burgundy WhenMay 8, 2005, 1 week LocationThis restored vintners home has 2 lovely B&B's of very nice size and 1 Gite of 2 BR's - all have been beautifully restored and furnished by Veronique Therain-Lanoy and her husband. He has a small restaurant in the town of St. Sernin du Plain which is about 1/2 hr SW of Beaune and a great central location for touring Burgundy. Vero is a lovely person and so helpful on sites to see and restaurants of note. She speaks good English as well. The gite goes for 360 to 490 Euro per week depending on season and is well worth it, we feel, compared to other gites we have mentioned. We did not fare very well the next week in Provence so you never know but we would highly recommend Vero and her rooms and gite. Nearby AmenitiesEasy drive to many restuarants, bakeries and grocery stores (5 miles) as well as charming Beaune. Many wineries in the town and around for degustation and purchase. The House/ApartmentThe original building goes back to 1700's I believe - great views and very quiet on sort of dead end street in a small hill top village. All B&B rooms (2) and the Gite have private entrances and Vero and family live in a separate part of the long house on premise. All amenities were first rate as to furnishings, kitchen, bath and shower room (spacious all). GardenVery nice table and 4 chairs outside to sit and enjoy the view to be shared with B&B guests. No pool. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasExceptional furnishings in the gite and what we saw of the B&B's - very clean and well furnished to accommodate all as to seating and relaxing. We felt we were living in the original house as vintners ourselves with the modern day amenities. Bedrooms/BathroomsWonderful comfortable beds and gorgeous linens etc. Separate very large shower room and dressing area with washer and dryer and another room for the toilet. KitchenVery large and well laid out kitchen with new stove and plenty of dishes - you could really prepare a gourmet meal in this kitchen. Problems or BonusesSort of surprised at how well it was furnished and what a great location it was! Agency and Representatives (and price)Went directly through Gites de France to Vero who is on premise and speaks English - she was very responsive to all our questions - 360-490E per week for the gite which is a bargain we think. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We would definately return to L'Abbaye to revisit beautiful Burgundy and would recommend it highly to our friends and others to look at for their holiday rental. Things to do in this areaBeaune was a fantastic town and many nearby castles to visit, churches of note and many very good restuarants.
