4bed/4bath villa, St. Remy, Provence WhenMay 2005, One week ReviewWe - four couples - rented this villa toward the end of May, 2005. It is a typical Provencal building, ideally set up for four couples, having four bedrooms each with its own bath. The bedrooms are all on the second floor, and, while not all exactly equal, are large and nicely furnished. The first floor holds a living room, dining room, and kitchen, all generously sized and all with French doors opening out to a terrace and the pool. Adjacent to the kitchen is a laundry room and ironing board and an extra freezer. There is also a den on the first floor with additional beds. The living room has comfortable furniture, and the dining room has a table big enough for eight. There is also an outdoor kitchen with a big table as well as an outdoor shower/toilet room convenient to the pool. There were plenty of dishes and cooking utensils. The only thing that didn't quite fit with the general high level of furnishings were the towels which were rather scarce and not of the highest quality. The villa grounds are walled with a gate. They are large and nicely landscaped, with a view of the Alpilles. The pool is good-sized and there are plenty of lounge chairs. St. Remy is within walking distance and is a nice-sized town, with a number of restaurants and a market on Wednesdays. And it is centrally located within Provence, well situated for exploring the area. There is a caretaker, who comes around most days. He cooked dinner for us the last night; it was a grand feast featuring Provencal lamb and with wine and vegetables from his own place. Altogether I highly recommend this villa. It was roomy, well-furnished and well-kept. And in a great location. I can't imagine a better introduction to Provence. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
