Review 1966: Welcome 2 France, Vendome IV

Review by SusanCV from PA

1bed/1bath apartment near Place Vendome, Paris

Feb 2006, 5 nights

The location of this rental was perfect! Located on Rue de la Paix between Opera and Vendome Place, across from The Park Hyatt and above Tiffany's. We felt very secure with a key/code to get in the main door, another to get through the gate, another for the elevator (we never found the steps) and finally one for the apartment. There were security cameras and automatic lights throughout. The apartment building was incredibly quiet. We never heard or saw anyone else.

The 2 windows looked out to Rue de la Paix, so it was noisy. You heard horns, traffic and late night partiers all night. Since it was winter we kept the windows closed, this would not be an option in the summer.

The apartment was lovely! Everything was in new condition and comfortable. It even had high speed internet connection.

The heat worked well. We did not see any indication of a/c (there were 2 radiators). A weird event took place each night. We had the heat set at a comfortable level. At 2 AM each night the room felt incredibly hot. Our radiators were cold, so it wasn't our heat. By morning the room cooled down enought so you could use the blankets again.

The agency was easy to work with. They requested a 30% deposit wired. I had problems with my bank so they allowed me to make a deposit to their account with Bank of America. We had a local branch nearby so that was easy and I saved a wire transfer fee! They allowed us to check in at 10:30 in the morning since it was not rented the prior week. That was a wonderful thing after being on a plane all night. The agency will arrange any tours, cars, phones or reservations for a fee. I was very pleased with my interactions with them. We took the Roissey bus to the Opera stop for about 17 Euros (for 2). We had to wait for about 1 hour for the contact to arrive to check us in. He later told us that if we had hired a car and driver from him for 75 Euro, a key would have come with the driver to let us in the apartment.

The agency has several other apartments in this building. I would not hesistate to rent there or with the agency again.

Nearby Amenities

There was a small grocery store and a large super market within walking distance. There was a large number of restaurants of all types close by. We ended up eating dinner close each night since the collection was good, the weather cold and rainy and our feet were exhausted!

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The apartment was very small. Not any bigger than most hotel rooms. The entrance was about 5 feet long with a closet on one side and a counter with a small sink and cook top on the other side. The room was square with one king bed, 2 small side tables and a small metal/plastic fold up cafe table with 2 chairs in the corner. One wall had built in closets that held some drawers, hanging space and a small (13 inch) TV. The bathroom was lovely with marble tile. The shower was the small quarter circle stand up shower unit. The best part was the heated towel rack.

The bed was comfortable.

Since the kitchen seemed an afterthought I believe it would be difficult to cook much beyond coffee. They had a microwave, coffee maker, plates, glasses and pots. It just was very crowded. We had no interest in making anything, so it was not a problem.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We paid 150 Euro per night for a five night stay.

Things to do in this area

We enjoyed several restaurants nearby. One was Opera George for a lovely dinner. There was a high end Italian restaurant Barlotti that was good. Our favorite was an Italian deli/restaurant called Subito. The food was good, the antipasta wonderful and nice people.
