Review 2179: Seaside France, Cottages at Rochebonne

Review by Pippa from England

3bed/2bath cottage near Marennes, Poitou

July 2005, 3 weeks

I have been holidaying there for the past five years for three weeks every time, and I could not think of a more wonderful place to be. It has beautiful beaches going on for miles and miles. The house (Le Pressoir) is wonderful with it's character and antique furniture. The villages are wonderful with cycle paths everywhere(especially on the islands), everything is child/family friendly.

I am really looking forward to my next holiday at the Domaine of Rochebonne in July and we have some friends who are coming with us this time, because they say it sounds so lovely when we describe it to them. My two young children love it there too, and they are perfectly safe in the enclosed grounds, which is very reassuring for me.

Nearby Amenities

The local village which is barely five minutes walk has all basics needs (butcher, baker, restaurant, doctor, chemist, bar, post office....) The main town of Marennes is only a couple of miles away.

The House/Apartment

Very peaceful, quiet, cool, clean, with an oldy worldy touch.

Lovely private garden with BBQ, garden furniture, washing line. Each gerden is enclosed so it's private. There is a huge shared pool with sun loungers, pool inflatables and it's safely enclosed.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Plenty of everything and everything very comfy and suited our needs perfectly.

The bedrooms were lovely and fresh, clean and comfy with plenty of clothes space. The bathrooms are very good with shower/bath in them and again, very clean, hygienic.

A fully equipped kitchen, better than my own! Spacious and clean, with all necessities (dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, tumble dryer).

Problems or Bonuses

They keep a supply of video cassettes, books, DVDs that are available in case of rainy weather.

No bad surprises at all.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The owners and caretakers are very friendly and helpful and if there are any queries, they always do their best to help.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I will most certainly stay at the Domaine of Rochebonne again. I cannot imagine a lovelier place to stay at.

Things to do in this area

I loved the restaurants in La Cayenne in Marennes (Marennes is the capital of the Oyster by the way), wonderful golden beaches, plenty of cycle tracks, lots of entertainment for young children and teenagers alike and of course for the adults! Surf beaches, the biggest zoo in Europe is only 20 minutes away.
