Review 219: Doorways, La Conviviale

Review by Tom from USA

apartment on farm near Avignon, Provence

before 2000

Most of our travel in France and Italy has revolved, so to speak, around biking. Through Doorways a few years ago, we rented a maas, I believe they are called, in Provence near Avignon. It seemed to be a restored farm or small estate, rustic and quiet, called La Conviviale. It was spacious and open, with an old fashioned pool. When we arrived there was a peacock on the lawns. The owners spoke English but pretty much left us alone. The apartment was large and clean, certainly not elegant, but with a simple charm, one of those places where the windows open out to trees in bloom and a courtyard, airy and relaxing and sunny. We generally drove down evening to small restaurants in the towns nearby, and biked during the day.
