Vacation rentals in France (farms, cottages, gites, apartments)
Review 2194: Rental France, Rue Des Chartreux
2bed/1bath apartment in the 6th arrondissement, Paris
July 2006, 1 week
This apartment in Paris was in a very nice location close to the Jardin du Luxembourg. It faced a courtyard, which was mostly very quiet. The apartment was on the second floor; the building had an elevator.
There was a bakery three doors away, and there was a bar/cafe two doors away. The nearest grocery store was a seven minute walk. There were many other shops and restaurants nearby.
The apartment building had three or four apartments per floor and six floors. The other tenants in the building were very quiet. The only noise that we would hear would come from the kitchen of a restaurant that backed into the courtyard, when they were cleaning up at the end of the night.
No balcony or outside sitting area.
The furniture was very attractive (lots of antiques) however, the dining table was a bit rickety and unstable. The kitchen was renovated, though tiny. Everything was very clean. In Paris we did not eat in very often, so the lack of a good dining table didn't bother us very much.
The beds were comfortable, if on the firm side. Each bedroom had a ceiling fan, which was wonderful. The big french windows were great for letting cool air in at night. There was a portable air conditioner provided, but we found the fans and windows worked just as well.
The bathroom was small, but very functional. It contained a very short but deep tub. Everything was remodeled and clean.
The kitchen had a stove but no oven (there was a microwave). The china and pots and pans were of very high quality (limoges china). There was an undercounter refrigerator/freezer, and a combination washer/dryer also in the kitchen. It was very small but very well equipped.
Problems or Bonuses
The bathroom was a little smaller than it appeared in the photos. The dining table was a bit unstable. Otherwise no bad surprises. We were very happy with the apartment and its location.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
The onsite person spoke excellent English and met us at the apartment. We paid 1300 Euros for a week (in June/July 2006).
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I would stay here again. I am very picky about noise. This place was very quiet (except for occasional courtyard noise), clean and comfortable. The only downside was the small living room; because there wasn't a big area to eat. However, because this was Paris, we weren't really bothered! It was a wonderful neighborhood, very upscale. It was great for our family with the Luxembourg gardens (and playground) within a five-minute walk. Metro stops were a seven or eight minute walk away.
Things to do in this area
The Kayser bakery is two doors away. Amorino Gelato is a few blocks down the street. Place Vavin is a square with several nice cafes and shops.
