5bed/4.5bath house in Ansouis, Provence WhenSeptember 16 - 23, 2006, 1 week LocationChez Westfield is in the tiny, relatively undiscovered hill village of Ansouis. Right on the small main plaza, across from the Tabac and Bar des Sport. You were in the center of village life (the whole village is only 700-900 people). The village is lovely, walkable, with a lovely 15th century chateau and 12th century church at the top. A good location for touring the Luberon and central Provence. Twenty-five minutes north of Aix, 10 minutes from Lourmarin, Cocuron, and Cadenet. Nearby AmenitiesBruno at the Tabac across the street had some basic things. The boulangerie is literally 10 seconds from the sidedoor, with basic groceries, and wonderful breads and pastries. In Pertuis, 10 minutes away, is a big Hyper U with everything. The restaurant is La Closerie, a great small spot 1 minute's walk away. The Bar des Sport has sandwiches. In addition, near the Chateau is the Tea Room, with a great terace, light lunches, omelettes, desserts, etc. Finally, the Tourism Office next to the Chateau entrance has great prices on the local wines - all WINNERS! The House/ApartmentThe original house shell is 150 plus years old, but has been renovated well. We had three couples in the house - lots of room, a huge kitchen with everything you could need, including dish and clothes washing machines. Third floor roof top terrace, small first floor garden terrace, and one (small) car garage. A great facilty for a week. GardenSmall enclosed patio, third floor terrase, but we sat in the plaza in front of the bar with the townspeople. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasEverything was comfortable, clean, and spacious on the first floor. Bedrooms had enough space, and three have private baths. Bedrooms/BathroomsBathrooms were servicable (European), with seperate WC's in most rooms. KitchenA better kitchen then our at home. Lots of everything, modern appliances, huge area! Problems or BonusesMore spacious then we expected for Europe. Agency and Representatives (and price)We booked with the ownwer in Michigan. The onsite representative spoke passable English, to go with my very basic French. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We would stay again! Good location, wonderful facility, charming village. The village is quiet at night, but other things are relatively close by. Things to do in this areaLots of day trips, Bon Marches (markets), lunches in Aix, hill town touring, or just lazy lunches at the Tea Room.
