Review 2481: Nice Pebbles, Boucherie

Review by Christian from England

2bed/1bath apartment in Old Nice, Provence

September 2006, 6 days

The apartment was in Vieux Nice or Old Nice. This is Nice's historic quarter and is full of charm and ambiance. The area is pretty much pedestrianised and there are loads of restaurants, charming cafes and interesting boutique style shops. The apartment was tucked away on a narrow street just off Rue de la Boucherie. The area is very built up and buildings are very close together like in many other historic quarters across Europe. I very much liked the area as everything is on your doorstep. The only thing that bothered me at first was the amount of graffiti. But I was told that this is common in Europe and nothing to worry about.

Nearby Amenities

As I said all the restaurants, cafes and shops that you could possibly need are on your doorstep as well as the famous Promenade des Anglais. This was one of the best things about the apartment.

The House/Apartment

The building was old and typical of the style in Vieux Nice. The common parts were a little shabby but not too bad. The apartment was on the third floor. I think there were about 15 other apartments in the building which was mainly full of French residents I think.

There was no outside space.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furnishings were all new and in good shape. The place was comfortable and very clean. There were four chairs so everyone could sit. The overall standard of the apartments was very good and there were plenty of windows to make the place airy and light.

The beds and mattresses were of good quality and comfortable. The bedrooms were a little on the small side but nicely arranged and presented.

The kitchen was equipped with all the basic stuff that you'd need. There was a cafetiere and enough pots and pans to make simple meals. We tended to cook a lot of fresh pasta which was widely available in the old town. The kitchen was in good condition and had a nice feel to it, it was located in the living area so was nice and sociable to cook in.

Problems or Bonuses

We were pleased to get a welcome pack on arrival, which provided us with tea/coffee and bottle of wine and also biscuits.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Gayle from Nice Pebbles was very helpful and friendly. The whole booking process was straightforward. We felt that the apartment was exactly as advertised on their website. We paid 450 for our stay which was inclusive of linen and towels (which were very clean and of good quality).

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Absolutely, would recommend to anyone who wants to stay somewhere which has everything on your doorstep. The apartment was very clean and comfortable - a home from home.

Things to do in this area

We ate out quite a few times since the restaurants were all very tempting. We particularly liked Oliviera which has an amazing selection of olive oils. We loved strolling down the prom everyday and wondering around the streets. There was always something new to discover!
