Review 270: Doorways, Lumiere de Provence

Review by Donna from USA

3bed/2bath house in a town, Provence

May 25-June 8, 2002, two weeks

This is a lovely property with lots of vegetation and flowers, a swimming pool, four terraces (two with table & chairs) and a view. The owners are delightful people who live next door and are very helpful. The villa is in a small town about 10 minutes from Aix-en-Provence and 20 minutes from Marseilles. The villa is beautifully furnished and functionally laid out with a very well-equipped kitchen. We ate all our meals on terrace. Lavender, thyme, and rosemary were growing next to the terrace. A dirt road above the villa allows one to walk into a national forest area.

Nearby Amenities

We could walked three blocks down the hill to the centre ville of Bouc Bel Air where there was an open market twice a week. There we bought fruits, vegetables, olives, sausage, cheese, etc. A small very clean grocery store and pharmacy were also in the village. Two supermarkets were within easy driving distance. Many restaurants in Aix, 10 minutes away, though driving and parking in Aix were a challenge.

The House/Apartment

The house is not historic. The furnishings are a nice blend of modern, some antiques and numerous lovely decorative addition, some probably collected by the owners on their travels. It has a very homey, personal feel to it. Everything was in excellent condition and clean. There was a dishwasher and washer and dryer.

One could easily make a gourmet meal in this kitchen.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We have rented through Doorways before (Tuscany) and have been pleased with their service and the quality of their rentals.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Yes, we would stay here again. The area between Aix and Marseille is a bit more built up than we had anticipated. However, this allows for easy access to the Marseille airport and means that there are markets available. The villa itself and immediate environs are very quiet and private.
