1bed/1bath apartment in 3rd arrondissement, Paris

October 2006, 1 week

This apartment is located on the first floor of a typical Parisian apartment building off Rue St. Gilles in the Marais.

Nearby Amenities

There is a small market just around the corner. The is a bakery just outside the building, as well as excellent dining options. The nearest metro is Chemin Vert(1/2 block). Bastille metro is just two blocks away.

The House/Apartment

The building is quite typical. The apartment itself is lovely. You enter through the eat in kitchen. The is one large window in the kitchen, the next room is the living room with plenty of seating and two large windows. The windows open onto the courtyard and are double paned, so it is quiet.

In the living room there is a desk, TV (though we never used so I can't comment on it), a WiFi connection, a walk in closet, and the two sofas, which are actually twin beds (very comfortable), there are also additional chairs. There are plenty of linens, as well as throws, etc. There is a bedroom with a queen size bed and a large window. There are two armoires and extra linens.

The bathroom is located off the entrance and is separated into two rooms. One with the sink and bathtub with shower (no shower curtain or door as is typical). The other room contains the toilet. The bathroom is supplied with a hairdryer and plenty of towels (which the owner will replace 1/2 way through your stay if desired). Soap and shampoo were also provided.

The kitchen is very nice, she had plenty of good quality dishes. There is a dishwasher, a large refrigerator, and a washer (no dryer, but there is the heated towel rack in the bathroom, which dries clothes very fast). Everything was very clean.

You enter the building through a small courtyard, no grass, but it did make it quiet. However if you sleep with the windows open you can hear other residents when they come home late at night (at least momentarily).

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The owners pride really shows in this apartment. The apartment was very clean and comfortable.

Yes, the beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were nice.

Yes. The kitchen was very usable, however with all the great food right outside the door, it was hard to cook. It was great having an excellent bakery nearby for breakfast each day. We never cooked full meals, but it looked very well supplied and was very clean. She had the kitchen stocked with coffee, tea, olive oil, salt, pepper, etc. She also supplied a welcome basket of fruit, water, chocolate. A nice touch!

Problems or Bonuses

This is such a find. The location, the price, the nice owner, you could not ask for more.

There is no phone, but there is a WiFi connection. There is no dryer (some may have a problem with that).

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The person who you contact is a relative of the owner I think, who lives in Florida. He was polite, and responded quickly via phone and email. He does not overly supply you with information, so if you are a person that needs a lot of reassurance, this may not be for you. I found the transaction very simple, a small deposit (part of the rent - not additional) paid via check or paypal, and then the rest in cash on arrival. You call the owner when you arrive and there she is. It's that simple. The owner is a dynamic very friendly French woman. She will help you with all of your needs.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I hesitate to recommend this apartment, because it is such a find. I don't want it to busy the next time I go, however the owner is so wonderful, I definitely will recommend it for her benefit.

Things to do in this area

This is well located in the Marais. You are close to the metro, bus, markets, tons of small stores, and the beautiful Place de Vosges. Approximately 10 minutes by foot to Notre Dame.
