Vacation rentals in France (farms, cottages, gites, apartments)
Review 2769: Owner, La Goissie
2bed/2bath house near Montignac, Aquitaine
July 2006, Five Days
This lovely gite is located next to the owners' house in the country near Montignac. The gite has its own drive that enters the small country road across from tobacco fields and other farm lands. The town is an easy drive and full of restaurants and shops.
The nearest markets and restaurants were less than a five minute drive. Several to chose from and all easy to get to with a car.
The Gite was in very good shape. The bathrooms were small by American standards, but fine for me, my wife, our two children, and my mom. A TV and well equipped kitchen was perfect for our family. We were able to fix several meals in the kitchen and on the grill.
The outside seating area was private and protected from view from any others. A shared pool was also available and provided a wonderful place for all of us to play. I think we went swimming each afternoon. There were also various games and activities for the kids provided by the owners.
Everything was in very good shape and very comfortable. This is not a fancy place, but is similar to what most would have in their own home. The gite and the grounds were very well maintained. One thing to note is that there is no AC.
Both bedrooms are nice, though one of them is a little small if trying to squeeze in two adults and a two year-old. On the whole, perfect for us. We slept very comfortably.
Everything was perfect. We grilled, boiled, and cleaned as needed to our hearts delight. Not a need left uncovered for our party of five.
Problems or Bonuses
All good. See below.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
A very reasonable price for what you get. The hosts are so incredibly accommodating. We loved them and have tried to stay in touch. As British expats, they do speak English.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I would certainly stay here again if I was with the family. The owners go above and beyond to take care of all of there guests, but seem to really enjoy kids. They provided us with a good dinner after a long drive our first night. We were invited inside their home to watch the World Cup another night. They willingly let me use their computer to check email. Judy (judy@montignac)even went swimming with us. Finally, Judy and John made cherry jelly with our son the last night we were there. John received permission from the neighboring farmer to pick some cherries and stoned them, and Judy did the hot work. We took home two jars, one of which we are saving until the anniversary of the making in a few weeks. Their affection for the kids made it a special place for us. John always went in search of the cat (Bella) when our two year-old daughter wanted to see her for all of five seconds.
I would not stay here if I was a couple looking for a secluded romantic get away. While perfect for a family, it might not work for the love bugs in search of privacy only because of the proximity of the gite to the house and the shared pool. That being said, the owners would certainly respect the guests privacy.
Things to do in this area
It is Dordogne. Caves, rivers, castles, and prehistoric man. What a fun place for one week.
