Review 2888: Our Home in Paris, Saint Paul
Studio apartment in 4th arrondissement, Paris
May 2007, 6 nights
It was in the Marais district, between rue St Antoine and the Seine. It was in a nice area - village St Paul. A lot of antique shops.
Monoprix was three minutes walking from the apartment. A nice boulangerie was at the front of the building. Restaurants, bakeries, take-out places for Chinese food and Japanese food, butcher shop and cheese shop were all within 10 minutes walking. A lot of restaurants in the area too.
The building was in good shape. The apartment windows were facing the inner courtyard. The boulangerie's kitchen door facing the courtyard and was open most of the time. The apartment was peaceful and quiet. We didn't hear/see our neighbors except one young man on the ground floor smoked/talked on his cell once/twice when we were there. There were eight apartments in the building, I think.
No outside sitting area.
The furniture was in good shape. The studio was small and compact. There were two chairs for eating at the table. There were a sofa, but we didn't use it. The room was clean. There were one closet for hanging clothes and one closet with shelves. The air conditioning didn't work - was not cold at all. Luckily it was not too warm when we were there. Opening the two windows was fine for us except when the young man smoked at the courtyard. I did inform the owner about the air conditioning not working. I hope he will replace/fix it.
The bed was very comfortable. It was one room with a dining table next to the bed. There were another table on the other side of the bed. The only problem with this studio was the bathroom. It has a bathtub with shower. The shower curtain was glass (may be 3/4 ft). It was hard for us to shower with water not splashing out of the tub. The grout of the bathtub tiles had mildew. I informed the owner by email about the problem after I came home. He said he knew the problem and 07/23 weekend he would check out the apartment and would correct the problem. We had a problem with the toilet flushing and the local contact came to fix it. The washing machine with dryer was in the bathroom. There were English explanation in a binder for all appliances.
It was a nice kitchen with two cook tops, microwave/oven and a small refrigerator. There were enough non-stick pots and pans. There were plenty of plates, cups, wine glasses and utensils. I cooked several meals there. I brought my own sponge for washing dishes.

I booked with the owner directly in January. He called me at home one day after I emailed him - very nice person. He lives in USA. His local contact is Hotel Saint-Louis Marais. We had the hotel driver to pick us up from CDG. We arrived around noon. The driver picked up the key from the hotel and took us to the apartment, carried our bags and showed us the apartment. The apartment was €140 per day.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I won't stay here again unless the bathroom is clean with no mildew and the air conditioning is truly working.
Things to do in this area
My husband enjoyed visiting Louvre, d'Orsay and Musee de l'Orangerie. I loved the outdoor markets - Marché d'Aligre (12th Arr) and Bastille market - bought fresh seafood!
