1bed/1bath apartment in 11th arrondissement, Paris When28 June-7 July 2007, one week + LocationOur apartment was in the 11th arrondissement bordering the 3rd and 10th. We were on the edge of the Marais. Very close to a Metro stop. Very clean apartment, nice, secure building. Lots of space for two people, could be crowded with more, though. The apartment had a zillion amenities, including Internet access on a permanent computer, DVD player, iPod stereo system, lots of guidebooks, stove, microwave to name a few. Great location, and the company was great to work with. Wonderfully put-together "housebook" with all kinds of helpful information. Nearby AmenitiesThe area is filled with patisseries and boulangeries, there's a little grocery store right on the corner, a laundromat around another corner, and tons of restaurants within walking distance. The area is lively and diverse but seemed completely safe. Close to pretty much everything and, like I mentioned, close to the Metro (about five lines from that station, too). The House/ApartmentThis apartment is on the second floor of a residential building. The building appeared to be in good shape, very secure. We needed a code to get in the lobby, a key to the foyer and andother for our apartment. Elevator to the second floor. No A/C, but for this trip, we didn't need it! The apartment has a little balcony off the front facing the street. The street is narrow and just off a major road, so during the day it could be a little noisy, but at night we slept fine. You can view the apartment directly: Modern Living. GardenNo outside area to sit. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasVery hip little place. Modern furnishings, ceiling fan. High table with bar stools. Everything looked brand new! Very clean and comfortable. Bedrooms/BathroomsComfy bed. Toilet separate from the shower area, which was helpful in the morning with two people. Bedroom is connected to the living area, but can be separated by a sliding door. We closed the door at night to make it darker and to ensure it was quiet. KitchenTons of dishes, glasses. Knives, pots and pans for cooking. Coffee maker, toaster and microwave, as well as an electric tea kettle. Kitchen was small, but this was a small place. It would have been tight to do Thanksgiving dinner, but for dinner it would have been fine. We honestly didn't do any cooking, just slicing, heating up croque monsieurs, pouring wine. Small fridge but, again, small place. Problems or BonusesLove the Internet access! Very helpful to stay in contact with home. Agency and Representatives (and price)The agency representative was outstanding. Yes, she spoke English; I do believe (from her bio) that she's orignally from NYC. She was great (Yetunde Oshodi is her name). We had to reschedule days, she was gracious and accommodating. Our flight was a day later, she was gracious and accommodating again. She made sure we were secure and comfortable in the place, and even left us a bottle of wine. The price we paid for the week was far less that what we would have paid for a comparable hotel room. Very reasonable. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? Our experience in Paris was our first time renting and apartment on our own. We had outstanding service and great luck to find this place. We were incredibly happy. This was a fantastic apartment and we'd definitely recommend it; we'd stay there again! Overall, this was an affordable, well-located, clean, hip apartment. Perfect for my husband and me. Loved it. Things to do in this areaThe patisserie/boulangerie Aux Peches Normands (9 Rue de Faubourg du Temple) is an AMAZING little place. We were there literally twice a day. It's about a five-minute walk away. We were very close to the hip, great restaurants on Rue de Oberkampf. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
