studio apartment Latin quarter, Paris

Wonderful large windows looking over the active street life, photo by

Feb 2007, 1 week

Wonderful very busy neighborhood in the Latin quarter. Many restaurants, and shops on the street. Very close to the metro stop. Short walk to Notre Dame. We could have been happier with the location! Quite safe – we had two children and strolled about after dark with no problems.

Nearby Amenities

No large market areas near by but a multitude of restaurants and several small grocery stores. I walked to Starbucks for coffee each morning.

The House/Apartment

It was an interesting and well kept older building, with a key in security lock on the outer door. The apartment is up several floors and has no elevator. We didn’t mind the hike – but it might be a challenge for some. There were other apartments in the building – we never heard a peep from them. The apartment is a studio with a loft bed and a fold out futon. It has wonderful floor to ceiling windows that span the entire apartment. We enjoyed opening them up and watching the busy pedestrian street activity below us. There were no cars on the street as it as for pedestrian traffic. It is noisy at night until about 2am, we were night owls and didn’t mind. The mornings were very quite.

You can view the apartment directly: Rue Xavier Privas.

There was a historic church around the corner with a little park to sit in but no sitting area directly with the building.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture was fine. The entire place was very clean, towels and bedding were supplied. There was a small table with chairs for dining. The futon bed worked as a couch during the day.

One bed was a futon fold out which my sister thought was okay. I slept up in the loft bed which was a mattress on the floor which was firm and worked well for me. There was one bathroom with a full tub.

The kitchen was recently remodeled and very nice. It had a small washer, microwave and stove top. There were plenty of dishes, utensils, and cooking ware. We did cook several times and everything was in working order. The kitchen was somewhat stocked when arrived with olive oil, a bottle of wine, napkins and even peanut butter – which the kids enjoyed.

Problems or Bonuses

We were thrilled with the place which was a nice surprise. Some people might find the steep stairs and the night noise a problem, although we didn't.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We found the agency and Pascal great to deal with. A nice fellow let us in and even carried our tons of luggage up the stairs for us! We got a discount for off season travel.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

A great value in a wonderful location. I hope we can stay again!

Things to do in this area

Almost all of Paris seemed to be at our door step. We walked almost everywhere with a 10 year old and a baby in a stroller in tow. We both lost weight from all the exercise (despite all the wonderful food!). The train station is about a block away and we did use the train a few times . This is a great location and very safe. Since we were two sisters traveling with children it was important to us to be in a neighborhood that was busy and safe. The neighborhood had many excellent restaurants. There was a bakery around the corner and the children loved the crepes (mom and aunt too!).
