Review 2965: Rentvillas, Villa de Banon

Review by Blackwater from Canada

10bed/8bath villa near Simiane la Rotonde, Provence

July 2007, 2 weeks

Villa de Banon is a traditional Provencal farm built by the General of Napoleon's Imperial Guard circa 1810 (I think). Surrounded by lavender fields the house has been completely restored by the current owners. It is almost impossible to describe the incredible level of work that was carried out. It was described by my son as "having our own boutique hotel." None of us could find any faults at all - however hard we looked.

The property sits on about 200 acres all of which is accessible and offers great walks.

Nearby Amenities

The nearest village Simiane la Rotonde is about 3 kilometers away and has one of the best traditional bakeries ever and a bar/cafe/restaurant. Banon about nine kilometers has great local shops and a super small local market on Tuesdays - great local cheeses and all the other things you would hope to find in rural France.

The food at the villa was so good we hardly ate out at all.

The House/Apartment

The house is let as one unit - incredibly peaceful and with a superb pool and tennis court.

Great garden area again all private.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Everything brand new and the house featured in the September 2006 edition of Art & Decoration. Need more be said?

Again all brand new.

Nine burner stove - three ovens - two dishwashers - dishes, glasses etc for about 60.

Problems or Bonuses

The bonus was the managing couple - we had assumed that we would be doing the cooking; it transpired that we shopped and they cooked, washed up etc. We tried to help with clearing away. We ate and drank incredibly well and there were three places where all 28 of us could sit down at one table.

None of us have ever stayed in such a perfect place and I promise we have no connection with either the house or agency.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The agency, in California, were brilliant the entire time. On site language could possibly have been a problem but enough of us speak enough French.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I have no qualifications or reservations about any form of recommendation. My wife wants to move into the house tomorrow.

Things to do in this area

We did very little but there was enough in the local villages and at the Villa to keep us occupied the entire time.
