Vacation rentals in France (farms, cottages, gites, apartments)
Review 2971: Parisian Flat, Avenue de Breteuil
1bed/1bath apartment in 7th arrondissement, Paris
February 2007, 3 days
In the 7th arrondissement, a few blocks down from the Dome of the Invalides and a short 10 minutes stroll from the Eiffel tower and the Rodin museum. A convenient walk to several metro and bus stops.
We seemed to be the only tourists in the neighborhood, which we particularly liked.
There was a boulangerie/patisserie around the corner and another across the street/park. The people at the patisserie recognized us after the first morning, which gave us a lovely feeling of being part of the neighborhood. There was also a small mini-mart type store across the street that sold food and wine, even on Sunday ... not a huge selection but enough to get us started for a picnic lunch on our arrival Sunday.
The apartment was on the 8th floor of a 1930 building with an elevator. At 500 sq.ft, it was comfortable but cozy for four, but would be perfect for two. We did not see other tourists in the building but the neighbors were cordial and greeted us in the elevator.
There were two balconies. The main balcony was off of the living room with a good size table and chairs and wonderful views of the entire city (Notre Dame, Montmartre, Invalides). The other smaller balcony off the bedroom had two comfortable deck chairs and a view of the twinkling top of the Eiffel tower. Both balconies had large potted plants/herbs/flowers.
The decor of the apartment was obviously well thought out and the furniture was all of a good quality. No complaints with the cleanliness.
The cozy, well designed bedroom has a view of the top of the Eiffel tower. The mattress and linens were comfortable, and include a down duvet. The sofa-bed in the living room had a high quality mattress and was easy to pull out.
There was a shower room with tub/shower and sink and another smaller room across the hall with toilet and sink. While not as good as two full bathrooms, the arrangement was preferable to a single everything-in-one bathroom.
The kitchen was small but very well designed and included higher quality finishes (nice cabinets, stone counter-top, etc). The dishes, pots, etc. were everything we needed. The only downside was we were never able to make the oven work despite a demonstration and an instruction sheet.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
The women I spoke with on the phone when making the reservation was very friendly and informative. She allowed us to make the security deposit with a credit card, instead of a cash deposit. She met us at the apartment when we arrived and gave us several numbers at which to reach her in case of questions during our stay.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Definitely! Was perfect for a first visit to Paris and had several elements that made it special for a first timer: the Eiffel tower view and the lovely balconies.
Things to do in this area
One of the best things about the location of the apartment was its proximity to the lovely and very affordable Bistro de Breteuil. Three course dinner including a bottle of wine and glass of champagne was €34.
