Vacation rentals in France (farms, cottages, gites, apartments)
Review 3059: Owner, Grand Apartment (#37403)
4bed/2bath apartment in 14th arrondissement, Paris
Mid Aug 2007, 3 days
It's within five minutes walk to the bus/metro/tramway station. However, Porte d'Orleans is situated in the south of Paris, so it usually take 25-30 minutes to the main attractions. With Paris Visit Pass we were able to do the trip without extra fees.
There is a grocery store just five minutes walks away, a bakery and some restaurants within easy reach.
The apartment is in good shape and in a peaceful areas. It was a duplex located at the third and last floor of the complex. If you have heavy luggage it's not always convenient as it has no elevator. On the third floor, once you enter, you will have the bathroom facing you. Two bedrooms on the left and two bedrooms on the right. Going upstairs you have a nice living room with piano at the corner, and a nice and well equipped kitchen and dining room. It has a shower room plus toilet on this floor. There is one more bedroom/office/home theater on top of the dining room.
You can view the property directly: Grand Apartment.
It was one private sitting area in which you can access through the bedroom on top of the dining room. There was no pool.
Most of the furniture was in good shape except that one chair was broken. It was very comfortable as I have a huge family, so everyone got to sit around the living room and chat. It has an eight seat dining table but we were able to put 10 people around. It's convivial.
The beds were comfortable. The bedrooms were nice but not luxurious. It has one bathroom with bathtub and the other one with a shower. They were in clean condition. There was a washing machine and dryer in the bathroom.
It's a very nice kitchen, fully equipped. There were more than enough pots and pans and dishes for 10 people. They were in good quality. We enjoyed cooking in the kitchen. We were able to make full meals.
Problems or Bonuses
I didn't think the piano was important when I rented the apartment but my niece enjoyed it so much that we managed to listen to her playing during the dinner. I like the fact that it has wireless connection so everyone got to call home and keep themselves up to date with home.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Once I sent out my request, the owner of the apartment contacted me directly. Since I had to pay in advance and she requested €500 deposit, I was a bit hesitant, so I wrote an email to Homelidays to verify about this owner and the apartment. There was no reply.
The owner replied in her emails promptly and was very flexible with my check in and check out time. The price was €250 per night and with 10 people sharing it, I found it very cheap with all the facilities we could use. The owner speaks and write English. The reality of the place accurately reflect the published information, just that I was a bit concerned by the fact that there was no elevator and we had a lot of luggage to handle.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Yes, out of my 25 days travel with my family, I found this one has the best value and it was better for everyone. We had enough common space to chat, cook and eat, and have a nice rest in between. My family loved to be able to stay under one roof together and managed to keep their privacy at the same time. For a group of nine or 10 people, I would strongly recommend staying there.
Things to do in this area
We cooked most of the time at home. Then we took the metro/tramway/bus to different places. We didn't explore this area much, but it has a nice market just three tramway stops away. Basically easy access to everywhere.
