Review 3104: Clevacances-Touraine, H37340

3bed/2bath house in Amboise, Loire Valley

2007, 1 week

The location was perfect. We could walk into all the shops in town in about two minutes. The house was on a fairly busy road but was surprisingly quite. We could easy drive out of town to visit the Chateaux in the area - Chenonceau, Villandry, Chambord etc.

Nearby Amenities

You can walk to everything in town - grocery stores, small food shops, tourist shops, bakeries etc.

The House/Apartment

The house was old and had a lot of character. I don't think there was a straight wall in the house which just added to its charm. The house had a small gated driveway/yard which was nice since it allowed us a place to park the car but enough space for the kids to go outside by themselves. Since it was walled and gated people could not see in so it was very private. The house was small but did not feel cramped. We had four adults and two children staying in the house and it was fine. If you are use to living in a large house it will probably feel small but since we live in an apartment now we have become accustomed to living in a smaller space. We would eat our dinners in the the dining room since it had a large table that could seat eight people comfortably. The kitchen was a nice space and had a small table that seats three so it was easy to feed the kids there or have snacks. The was a bathroom that was half way up the stairs to the first floor. That bathroom had a toilet and a shower. The shower was nice as it had multiple jets. The first floor (American second floor) had three bedrooms (two with double beds and one with two twin beds) and a bathroom with a bath and sink. There was an additional room up a few steps from the first floor that the kids used as a playroom.

The direct website is Aux Trois Tilleuls.

The outside area was private. In the summer it will have flowers but when we were there it was just greenery. The ground does not have grass just small rocks. It was perfect for us since my girls liked playing with the rocks. There was a table and chairs to sit in but we never used them.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture was clean and comfortable. There is enough seating in the living room for four adults. The room is very small so you could not really bring more chairs in if you had more adults. There is plenty of seating in the dining room. You can comfortably seat eight adults at the dining room table. The house was clean. There was a bit of a musty smell when we arrived but they had a dehumidifier going and as long as we kept emptying the dehumidifier the musty smell went away.

The beds were comfortable. There was nothing fancy about the bedrooms but they were functionable and comfortable. It would have been nice to have a second toilet but we never seemed to have a problem.

The kitchen was a nice light and bright kitchen. It had enough pots/pans/dishes and the stove and cook top were fine. There was a small table to have snacks or feed three people comfortably. We didn't have a toaster when we arrived so we called them the next day and they brought us a new toaster. The owners are very nice and responsive.

Problems or Bonuses

The musty smell in the beginning was a little troubling but since it went away quickly with the dehumidifier it was fine. Pulling into the yard would have been easier if we had a smaller car but it was still fine, it just took some multi-point terms to actually get in and out of the yard.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We booked it though Clevacances-Touraine and they were very nice although every thing was in French. Thank goodness for babelfish since I don't speak French. The owners spoke a little English, which was fine since it was enough to work out everything that was needed.

We paid 500/week in October. There was an additional 50 charge for linens and 13 for gas consumption.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would stay here again. It is definitely not a luxury rental. It is very basic but it was comfortable and serviceable. It is also in a perfect location. It gave us enough space at a good price and either my husband or I could walk into town while the other stayed at the house for nap time.

Things to do in this area

You can walk though town or visit many of the Chateaux in the area.
