Review 3180: Owner, Le Pigionnier
1bed/1bath cottage with B&B near L'isle sur le Sorgue, Provence
October 2007, 5 days
This small house was originally a cabana for the pool area of the main house. It is located on the outskirts of L'isle sur le Sorgue. The small house is behind the big house of the owner and close to the pool. It is surrounded by trees and is very quiet and private. There is a small fenced in area for chickens, pigeons and a rabbit behind the small house and the owner had planted a small vegetable garden for use by visitors. It was a lovely area.
It was necessary to drive for groceries or anything to purchase. The nearest stores and restaurants were two to three minutes drive.
The small house was in excellent shape, was very clean and decorated attractively. There were two rooms to the house - a combination living, dining room and kitchen. This room also had a day bed that would have slept a third person. There was also one bedroom off the main room and a bathroom and toilet. The owner also rents out one room in the main house. I did not see that room. It was very peaceful and quiet and there is a canal with water behind the house that is visible somewhat through the trees and shrubs.
There was a nice looking pool that was closed for the season - it was the third week in October when we were there. There was a nice sitting area on a covered patio with a table and chairs. The garden had olive trees, a small vegetable garden and shrubs and flowers. It was very private from the big house.
The furniture was in good shape and quite comfortable. There is a queen size bed that was comfortable, a chest of drawers, closet, a couch, table and chairs, TV, cook-top, microwave, refrigerator and dishwasher. There was a small library of books available and plenty of dishes, glasses and cookware. For the two of us, there were plenty of chairs and lots of room.
Bed was comfortable and the bathroom was very nice with a good sized shower that looked fairly new. The towels were new also and there were nice linens on the bed.
The kitchen had everything except an oven. There is plenty of cookware and dishes and the quality was adequate. I cooked a small amount and it was fun to do so. The small garden still had a few tomatoes and peppers on the vines that I very much enjoyed using and eating.
Problems or Bonuses
There were no surprises - only that the property was nicer than it had appeared on the website.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
I booked on the Internet with the owner. She speaks limited English but it did not create any significant problems with the booking or on site. The property was actually better than it had appeared. The price was €345 for the five nights - or €69 per night. I thought it was a great deal.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I would definitely stay here again and would recommend to my best friend, family or anyone. It is not a fancy place and would not be appropriate for more than three people, but it is very comfortable and really felt like a home for a few days. It is centrally located to drive to the Luberon in a short time and most areas of Provence. We drove to the Pont de Gard, Vaison la Romaine, Arles and the Luberon villages with no problem in our day trips.
Things to do in this area
We visited the villages and towns mentioned above plus several others, went to markets almost every day, went to vineyards and did wine tastings. We explored Avignon prior to coming to this property. I feel we got a good taste of Provence and could have stayed much longer than our six days.
