Review 3181: RentParis, Apt #22;10 rue Simon le Franc

Review by Kathryn J from OK

1bed/1bath apartment in 4th arrondissement, Paris

October 2007, 7 nights

The apartment was in Paris, a half block from the Pompidou Center. It was on the seventh floor of an old building, but was clean and very quiet. The area was wonderful, with lots of restaurants, grocery stores and shops. Notre Dame was four blocks away and the Marais area was very nice.

Nearby Amenities

We walked to everything. The nearest grocery store was a half block away, as were patisseries, cafes, boulangeries and wine stores.

The House/Apartment

The building was quite old but was in good shape. It was very peaceful and quiet on the small block of the apartment, but very close to lots of activities. There was an elevator to the seventh floor - but it was the smallest elevator I have ever seen. I have been to Italy and Greece and have experienced Europe's small elevators, but nothing like this. There were numerous other apartments, but I only saw one person on our floor one time and a few people two or three times in the downstairs area.

You can view the property directly: Simon LeFranc.

There were two extremely small balconies - one person could have sat on each but it was too cold while we were there to try them out.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The apartment was very clean, the furniture was in good shape and quite comfortable. There were only two of us and we had plenty of chairs.

The queen size bed was very comfortable. The bedroom was small but nice. Since this was the top floor of the building, one wall in the bedroom had a slant which made the room even smaller. The bathroom was spacious, had a good size shower and was very comfortable with lots of storage space.

It was a full kitchen with enough dishes, pots and pans to cook for many people. They were of good quality. My only complaint was that the cabinets were quite high and would be inaccessible if there was not at least one tall person in your party. There was a washer/dryer, dishwasher, stove, microwave and full refrigerator. It would have been fine for cooking full meals if I had wanted to do so.

Problems or Bonuses

No surprises. The apartment looked exactly as pictured on the website. I guess the really small elevator was somewhat of a surprise, but it was usable and I was very grateful to have it.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

There were no problems with the agency. It was very much a business without the personal touch I experienced when renting from an owner in Provence, but there were no problems with it.

The on site person went above and beyond. When we arrived in Paris on the train from Provence, it was one day after a train strike - and the day of the World Rugby finals. We talked with Raysond by phone when we arrived and arranged to meet him in 30 minutes. That was before we discovered the line for a taxi. We waited two hours for a taxi and it then took an hour to get to the apartment in the taxi because of all the extra people in Paris for the rugby match. I was fearful that he would have left and was concerned of what we would do.

However, he was still there waiting for us and was very kind and understanding about our delay. He spoke excellent English. The apartment was exactly as presented on the website. The cost was 103 per night. It was perfect for two people.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would stay here again and would recommend to a friend or anyone. It was an excellent value in a good area, was clean and attractive.

Things to do in this area

There were a lot of things to do in the area. The Pompidou was right outside the door, it was on the edge of the Marais, close to a metro stop and close to Notre Dame and the river. It was in walking distance of the Louvre, and all the museums in the Marais area. There were lots of restaurants in the area and a cafe virtually on every corner.
