Review 3364: Owner, Ferme de Saint-l'Homer

Review by Francoise from France

3bed/3bath house near Blois, Loire Valley

Fermede St. Lhomer, photo by

Summer 2007, one week

The house is in a wooden countryside, in a very nice and remote location, far enough from other constructions and roads to be isolated, but close enough to town for convenience.

I very much enjoy this area, in full harmony with nature, with numerous birds and wild animals (deer mostly). Staying here is very restful, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. A nice "breather" for a few days.

Nearby Amenities

A car (or bicycle) is necessary for going into town to buy groceries. The nearest convenience store is about 3 km out.

The House/Apartment

The house is an old farm, dating back two hundred years. However, it has been completely restored three years ago, so though it maintains the charm of an old farm building, it has the modern amenities that can be expected. The house has a large fireplace - perfect for cool evenings - a total of eight beddings in four bedrooms, bathrooms, and a kitchen/living room area. It is in the middle of a large garden surrounded by private woods - far away from any other constructions.

There is a large garden, with a lawn, an barbecue, well suited for eating outside at lunch or in the evening during the warmer months of the year. The garden is surrounded by woods, and includes a large pond, in which it is possible to swim during the summer.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Almost everything is in new condition since the house was fully restored three years ago. The bedrooms are comfortable and clean, the kitchen contains the necessary appliances (fridge, dishwasher, stove, oven, etc.). There are several tables that can be put together to suit a large party for meals or other gatherings (up to 15 people).

The beds were clean and comfortable. Each bedroom has at least one window bringing in sunlight during the day. There are two bathrooms on the top floor (where the bedrooms are) and one downstairs in the living area. All are clean and in good condition.

The kitchen is very functional and contains all the necessary appliances and amenities for cooking meals for large parties.

Problems or Bonuses

The owner is a wonderful host. Friendly, giving a warm welcome that makes everyone feel like family.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

See directly through the website for contacting Anne (the host).

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Definitely - to people looking for a nice and quiet place to getaway from city life for a while, either alone or with friends and family.

Things to do in this area

We visited some of the castles of the Loire valley (very easy access by road), and enjoyed some fine French cuisine in restaurants close by.
