Vacation rentals in France (farms, cottages, gites, apartments)
Review 3428: Frenchy Rentals, 6 rue St. Lazare
2bed/1bath apartment in the 9th arrondissement, Paris
March 2008, 8 days
This apartment is also listed on VRBO as #99602. Apartment is located within a block of the southern end of Rue des Martyrs in the 9th district. It is 1 1/2 blocks from the Notre Dame de Lorette metro stop. Because of all the shops on Rue des Martyrs we loved the location. While its not in the heart of Paris tourist attractions, it is fairly easy to get to them.
Anything we wanted to buy is available on Rue des Martyrs and almost all in the closest block on the street. We tended to go a bit farther afield for restaurants but we really didn't have to.
The building is old. It has a two level security system each with a code, the first to get into the courtyard and the second to get into the apartment's building. The apartment is on the first floor (US second floor), which has the world's smallest elevator (one person plus one suitcase at a time) but there are about eight steps up to the building entrance from within the courtyard. The interior apartment floors are creaky. We could hear neighbors sometimes and we also could feel the rumble of the metro but neither was really bothersome.
The layout is a bit strange (we were clearly told of this before we booked) because the second bedroom is off the bathroom so we had to time my husbands and my shower and my daughter getting up. We found we could work around this limitation; others might not be able to.
You can view the property directly: 6 rue St. Lazare.
There's no outside sitting area.
The furniture was very nice. The apartment was nicely furnished and cleaned. Everything we needed was available. The pictures on the website clearly represent the property even down to the brightly tiled bath room.
The master bed was very hard but not uncomfortable. My daughter said the second bedroom bed (pulls out to make two beds) was very comfortable. There is one bath with sink, tub and shower and a second room for the commode.
Kitchen was very usable. It had everything we needed including plenty of refrigerator and freezer space. The dishwasher worked well.
Problems or Bonuses
There was a laundry room with a washer and dryer. The washer was a bit confusing to use but I did manage to get the hang of it. English language channels on the TV are quite limited (but this gave us a chance to work on our French).
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Frenchy rentals (Darrin and Paula) were fabulous to deal with. The owner is in the UK but I dealt with Darrin in advance of our trip and with Paula while in Paris. Darrin was extremely prompt in replying to all my emails and arranged for us to be able to get into the apartment early in the morning. Paula went through everything in the apartment with us upon our arrival (she was there when we arrived) and also helped me figure out what went wrong with the TV at one point.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We really liked the apartment. The location was fabulous for us. My daughter and I felt like regulars at the shops around the corner. There was plenty of everything which we needed, plenty of privacy and it was fairly quiet.
