studio apartment Latin quarter, Paris

When

April 9-16 2008, 7 days

Location

My husband and I rented the Xavier Privas Studio apartment in the 5th (Latin Quarter) from April 9-16 2008 and loved every minute of it. We were really hoping to find an apartment that would make us feel like we were experiencing something special and this place did the trick.

Nearby Amenities

There are tons of restaurants in the streets surrounding the apartment. There was also a great bakery around the corner that we went to every morning for fresh croissants. Plenty of touristy shops, clothes stores, shoe stores, and the St. Michel Metro is only a few minutes walk away. If you're looking for a bigger food store - there's a Monoprix only a few streets over. Another big bonus was the proximity to Notre Dame - only about a three minute walk and you're staring right at it! Awesome!

The House/Apartment

I felt like we were in the heart of the Latin Quarter - our apartment was surrounded by restaurants and pedestrian-only streets so there was always a pleasant hustle and bustle. However, this also means that if you're looking for a very quiet location - this might not be the spot for you. It's not terribly loud, but there is some noise outside. It took a few days to get used to the garbage trucks coming along everyday at 6am, but that was a very minor issue.

The layout of the apartment was great - about 300 sq. feet, but the loft/bed area was perfect for a quick rest mid-day or a comfy sleep at night. The windows were huge and fantastic, the view of St. Severin church was also pleasant, and the kitchen met all of our cooking needs. Also, the washer/dryer in the apartment meant we could pack less, and wash clothes as we needed.

We absolutely loved this place - we're a young married couple, looking for a taste of Paris and I think we accomplished it here.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture was in fairly good shape. It was not brand spanking new - but it was well taken care of and very clean.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The bed was quite comfortable in the loft area, and there was plenty of room for my husband and I to lay around and enjoy the space.

The bathroom was clean and spacious. The shower head wasn't the greatest, but it did the trick and kept us clean! The automatic shower-fan was a help as well so we didn't fog up the place.

Kitchen

We loved cooking in this apartment! There were two burners, a microwave and a toaster oven. Plenty of pots, pans, wine glasses, dishes for us to use. We cooked quite a bit in our apartment and everything worked out fine. From toasting some baguettes and brie, to making some pasta - we had everything we needed.

Problems or Bonuses

I really felt like we were in the heart of something. There were so many people walking around, and restaurants/cafes to choose from that it made our visit really enjoyable. We made friends with the Greek place across the street and would stop there almost every day for a quick crepe on the go.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Went very smoothly - Pascal and I traded a few emails, and I made the security deposit. He was informative and professional so I felt confident that things would work out. Side Note: Don't expect to have an enormous amount of contact with him when you get there. You're pretty much responsible for the place for the week - it's not a hotel service, so you're not going to get spoon fed.

-We arrived a bit early (already discussed) and met Regis, one of Pascal's associates who gave us a quick tour and completed our transactions. We dropped our bags off while the apartment was still being cleaned. When we came back, the apartment was clean and ready to go!

Check out was super easy - left the keys in the apartment and that was it!

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I definitely recommend this apartment to others. You do have some stairs to go up to get into the apartment, and the bed is in a loft type space - so if you're older and don't like to climb stairs this might not be the place for you.

I would stay here again in a heart-beat. There was just so much going on, and it always felt good coming back at the end of the day and enjoying the excitement around us.
