Location

East of the Sun is nestled in a very private location overlooking vineyards on a west facing hillside with a spectacular view of the ancient Dentelles mountains. You feel as if you are the only inhabitants in the area. Just a short drive from a main road south of La Fare and north of Baumes de Venise. A world away yet very convenient to Chateauneuf de Pape. Easy day trips to Avignon, Orange, Saint Remy de Provence, Arles and more.

Nearby Amenities

We loved the grocery and nearby bakery in Aubignan (D7) about 12-15 minutes away by car, which was open when other stores were not (a life saver). The owners were friendly and tolerated my basic French with smiles. They had all the staples we needed and since we arrived late on Saturday afternoon, we were very happy to find them on the main road. There is a nearby town of Baumes de Venise about seven minutes away. The bakery in Baumes de Venise had the best bread my husband had ever eaten. A tasting cave opposite the church has a Scottish woman who will pour wines for you to taste and has wonderful soaps and gift items. There maybe coffee in La Fare, which is a short walking distance. We did not go there ourselves as we were off to explore. With the well appointed kitchen and newer appliances, we made breakfast at home every morning and some lovely dinners.

The House/Apartment

Very quiet. Great views. Beautiful two-story Chateau in traditional style. Blue shutters. Windows an double French doors in kitchen and throughout living area. Large family room area with dining table for family meals or games.

Garden

Private residence with electronic gate. Outdoor seating. Beautiful pool overlooking vineyards. We were there in March, so we saw only a hint to the well planted garden.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Lovely furnishings reflecting Provence. Large dining table for six or more.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

Two queens and two twin beds. Two large bathrooms (second floor adjacent to master and twin room and on the ground floor inside queen bedroom) and a half bath on the ground floor.

Kitchen

Very nice dishes in blues and yellows. Easy to entertain with loads of glasses including wine and beverage. Owners second home is well appointed with cooking utensils and pots and pans. I cooked breakfast and several dinners while there. Good for a group of six to eight.

Problems or Bonuses

Really charming. Very private. Modern washer dryer and dishwasher.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Booked with the owner through website. Info on website gave helpful information and suggestions on where to go. Representative meets you either in town or at the house. He was very personable and nice and fluent in English. Website accurately reflects the property and prices are listed.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

This is a wonderful location to have a large family or several friends together. The pool would be so inviting in the warmer months. I would stay thee again and bring friends or family. It is so nice that you may not want to venture out, but do! There are many great adventures to have in the area.

Things to do in this area

Wine tasting at the cave at Chateauneuf de Pape. World famous wines and a tasting experience not to miss.
