2bed/1bath apartment in the 8th arrondissement, Paris WhenApril 2008, 1 week LocationThis rental was on the fourth floor of a quiet building on rue Clapeyron in the 8th Arrondissement. There were three different metro stops close by. Nearby AmenitiesThere was a grocery store about a five minute walk away. The apartment supplied a rolling cart if you needed to use that. There are also many small convenience stores on every block with fresh fruit and basic supplies. We sent my husband out every morning to the neighborhood patisserie for our breakfast (which we could see out the window). The House/ApartmentThis apartment was in excellent shape. It has beautiful ceilings, comfortable furniture, and was stocked with everything we needed. It is on the 4th floor, (there is a small, two to three person, elevator) and only one other apartment on that floor, which I believe also is a rental so we hardly saw anyone. There are two bedrooms, one bathroom, a living room, a dining room, and a kitchen. We had four adults and one two-year-old and it never seemed crowded. The only negative was that the beautiful floor was a little squeaky. You can view the apartment directly: Tranquility in the Eighth. GardenPerhaps the only drawback to this rental for us was that is did not have a courtyard and we were traveling with a two-year-old who likes to run. There is a wonderful park (Parc Monceau) about a 10-15 minute walk away though. There were a lot of windows making it a very bright apartment and very pleasant when the weather was nice enough to open them up. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furniture was in great shape and everything was very clean. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were comfortable. The bathroom was nice - with a bath and shower combo. Very spacious. We frequently used the provided drying rack to dry our clothes and there was plenty of room to set this up in the bathroom as well (washing machine available in the kitchen). KitchenWe did enjoy the kitchen - it was a great example of using a small space very effectively. We prepared a lot of meals for our group at the apartment and didn't come up with anything that we wished we had. There is a dishwasher which we didn't ever use. Problems or BonusesWe were very pleased at the many things available for our two-year-old. There is a step stool in the bathroom so she was able to use that for brushing her teeth. There was a set of plastic child cups in the kitchen. There were a lot of English children's books on the bookshelf. (Our subsequent rental in Rome did not have any of these things and we sure missed them!). The only child-safe thing I'd bring up is that you are on the fourth floor with windows that open floor to ceiling and while there is a banister thing blocking the window we had to have stern discussions about no climbing on the windows. We were also very happy with the "instruction booklet" left in the apartment. We referred to it a lot to see how to work the washing machine, where to go for groceries, etc. Finally, a wonderful perk is that there is an Apple computer (iMac) set up for you to use. We brought our MacBook laptops as well and could easily connect wirelessly with these but were able to use the main computer for video chatting back with our other family members. Agency and Representatives (and price)We worked with Gail at Perfectly Paris to set everything up. She was wonderful to communicate with. We were greeted by Preston who showed us around and answered our initial questions. Regarding price, we knew we were paying a little more than we have in the past but once there, we could see the difference between this rental and our last one. We paid €1450 for a full week at the end of April. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We would recommend this rental.
