Vacation rentals in France (farms, cottages, gites, apartments)
Review 3547: Owner, La Grange #58566
2bed/1bath house near St. Cere, Pyrenees
May 17th, 2008, 1 week
This lovely restored barn gite is located with the owner's home at an "end of the road" location 3-4k from Carennac and 14k from St. Cere. It was very handy to neighboring towns for groceries etc., and we did not have to travel more than one hour or less to most of the major sites in the Lot.
We very much enjoyed the ambiance of the property and privacy it afforded while still close to our major needs and sites.
You need to drive 4-5k for boulangeries and a bit more to grocery store and gas - there are four restaurants within 5k of the gite - very convenient!
This was quite an old property going back easily to the 19th century or more. It had been the barn to the property but very nicely converted into a gite about three or four years ago and was in excellent condition in and out.
Being at the "end of the road," it was very peaceful and quiet with lots of birds and easy walks at hand.
It is the only gite on the property besides the owner's home right next door.
There were two sitting areas on two sides of the gite depending on where the sun was, if necessary. The largest patio had a nice table and chairs and an umbrella.
There is no pool on the property although there is swimming/canoeing very close in the Dordogne.
The furnishings were of high quality and in good shape and comfortable. We found the gite very clean upon our arrival with plenty of seating in and out.
There was a nice bedroom down on the lower level with a nice bed and closet with single beds up stairs for another bedroom so four people could easily stay at the gite.
The bathroom was quite complete with a very nice shower.
There is a separate room with a washing machine.
The kitchen was quite nice with stove etc. with plenty of pots and pans and utensils to do a full meal.
Problems or Bonuses
The gite lived up to our expectations very well.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
We worked with the owner directly by email and she was very responsive and good to deal with. Janet and partner Mick are from England.
I believe we paid between $500 to 600 for the week and I felt it was quite fair for the value received.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We certainly would stay at this gite again and would recommend it to other travelers.
Things to do in this area
The Lot has plenty of castles, grottoes and lovely villages to see! Just check out Michelin or other guide books.
We left an extensive itinerary in the quest book of what we saw as well as restaurants.
