Review 3556: French Connections, Vieil Hesdin (Maison Ste Colette)

Review by Philip D from Isle of Man, UK

3bed/2bath house near Hesdin, Le-Nord

5/23/2008 - 5/30/2008, 1 week

Located in the small village of Vieil Hesdin near Hesdin in Pas de Calais, the rental was in a lovely part of the country really convenient for crossing the channel and really close to the beaches of Northern France.

The property is a converted farmhouse with its own grounds and enclosed courtyard.

Nearby Amenities

The property is relatively secluded and so shops etc where some distance away. We shopped predominately in Hesdin about five miles away along one of the most beautiful tree lined roads that you are ever likely to find.

The House/Apartment

The house was in great shape. It had its own courtyard and a great big garden at the back. It has three bedrooms (2 twin, 1 double) a lounge/dining area and a big kitchen. It had two bathrooms one incorporating the washing machine.

Outside there was a huge garden with loads of chairs (we counted 12) in that you could bring from the barns and two big tables, together with a gas barbecue that was a brilliant addition.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The place has been recently refurbished so the kit was in good order and the place was lovely and clean.

The beds were comfortable and two bathrooms were more than enough. They weren't cutting edge but were more than adequate for our needs.

This let was probably the best equipped we have ever encountered with loads of equipment and a really sensible attitude to breakages (we didn't break anything but it's refreshing that the owners accepted that accidents do occasionally happen). The kitchen had a big oven, loads of pots and pans and a dishwasher.

Problems or Bonuses

The gas barbecue was a pleasant surprise together with the loads of outdoor furniture and even bikes available for the children and adults. Having your own private courtyard was a real treat and we played many games of table tennis outside there.

Additionally having WiFi was great. We brought our laptop and having access to the Internet when on holiday made exploring the area really easy. It's a big advantage and hopefully others will take it up soon.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Although we found the property through French Connections we dealt with the owner's throughout. They were very professional and everything went very smoothly even though we booked very late.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would definitely recommend this let. It's a great area and the place was a real treat. Only qualification would be that the living room was a bit tight to get in the sofas and big dining table and chairs that were there but having such a big dining table was useful for the six of us when we had a big family meal so you can't have it both ways.

Things to do in this area

Lots of places to go, Arras is lovely as too was Hesdin market. Le Touquet has a great beach as too is Stella Plage.
