2bed/1bath house in St Remy de Provence, Provence WhenApril 21 - 28, 1 week LocationThis village house was 200m from the main street in St Remy. Bakery about 100m away. Nearby AmenitiesIt was an easy stroll into St Remy for coffee, restaurants or anything needed. A bakery was about 100m away. It was a drive to get to the supermarket although there was a smaller one in town, I think. A car parking space was available about 50 m from the house. The House/ApartmentThe house was comfortably furnished. There was plenty of room downstairs with kitchen, dining room and sitting area. A separate toilet was also downstairs. There was a nice, paved courtyard with seating, and a laundry backing on to it. Upstairs were the two bedrooms. The main with a comfortable bed and a small balcony with chairs overlooking the courtyard. The pictures on the website are accurate, but don't show properly the charm of this house. It had a good bathroom also, modern and with plenty of hot water. Everything in the house was in good order and well cared for. Although the house adjoined others, we did not hear our neighbours and the outside area was private and quiet. GardenThere was no pool. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThere was a couch in the sitting room and chairs at the table in the dining room and at the table in the kitchen. There were only two of us there, so it was quite a large house for us to rattle around in. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe bedrooms were lovely, and the bed comfortable with nice linens. KitchenI enjoyed cooking in the kitchen. It was well equipped and had everything needed to easily cook a full meal. Problems or BonusesThe best surprise was meeting the owners, Josieanne and Louis. They invited us to their house for a glass of wine and we had a lovely time. We were there for two hours, laughing and talking, even though they don't speak English and we don't speak French. We used phrase books, sign language and good humor to communicate and learnt a lot about the house we were in and the area. The only thing I didn't like was that the only toilet was downstairs, so if a trip was needed during the night, it was a hike downstairs. Agency and Representatives (and price)Josieanne met us at the house with a jar of homemade apricot jam, which was delicious, and gave us lots of much needed info about St Remy. She drove with my husband to show him where the big supermarket was as she was concerned he might get lost. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would love to go back and stay here again. I have already recommended it to a friend who has just returned and he and his partner loved it also. Things to do in this areaGlanum, all the Van Gogh places, the market. St Remy is just a fabulous place to explore. Make sure you go to see St-Paul-de-Mausole, the mental hospital where Van Gogh stayed. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
