Review 3604: Rentvillas, Le Manoir de Rougemontiers
4bed/3.5bath villa near Rougemontier, Normandy
June 2008, 7 days
This home was absolutely beautiful - and the owners were so gracious. They made sure we had some food in the villa and had a lovely table set under one of the big estate trees to have some wine, cheese and pastry. The home was large and clean and the beds were very comfortable. You are out in the country, so you'll need a car ... but, if quiet is what you're looking for - this is the place for you. You are within 1/2 hour to 40 minuets from Rouen, Honflour, Estrate, Omaha Beach.
The closest grocery and great shopping area is about five miles away in Bourg-Ashard. This place has a grocery - but I'd recommend shopping for what you need at the specific shops ... meat market, vegetable stand, pastry shop.
The house was completed in 1910 and the main section was build in 1891. It has been restored very nicely - keeping the integrity of the building intact - and updating within the theme of the house.
You can view the property directly: Le Manoir de Rougemontiers.
The garden is beautiful and we sat in the back yard every night. There is also a small area under vined to sit. They have a large pool on the property (hard to find that in France) and a lovely pool house equipped with a small eating area, fridge, microwave and bathroom with a shower! The grounds are just beautiful - and each night we took long walks on the country roads.
The furniture was old - but comfortable. Some of the pieces looked like originals of the house (from old pictures we saw). The house was VERY clean. We ate in the dining room every night - linens were supplied, dishes and the kitchen is well stocked for the most demanding cook.
The beds were extremely comfortable. Bathrooms were luxurious - ceramic tile on the floor, plenty of storage space - and there were a lot of towels for us to use.
The kitchen had everything you could want! We had mixers, grinders, electric juicers! Amazing! They have a wonderful new stove in the kitchen that our 'cook' friend wanted to take home with him! We all enjoyed preparing meals there.
Problems or Bonuses
I was surprised how comfortable the beds were - the beds are shorter than they are in the US - so be prepared for that. My husband is 6'4" - and fortunately he likes to practically sit up on pillows to sleep - so he was okay. I'm 5'8" and my feet touched the baseboard. But, the mattress was extremely comfortable.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
They e-mailed me several times the week before we left just communicating with us and the owners to make sure all questions were answered. I felt very comfortable that everything was in order before I left - thanks to the agency. The owners met us personally upon arrival and showed us around the house and made sure we understood the way everything worked. They spoke English better than we spoke French so it made the process very comfortable.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We would definitely stay there again and I would recommend this property to my friends. I thought it was a reasonable price for the property rented.
Things to do in this area
We visited Rouen - great city, Giverny and Monet Gardens, Estreat. Honflour and Omaha Beach. These were all within 40 minutes (easy drive on major highways) from the property. We ate at several outdoor cafes and cannot pick one we liked more than the other.
