Review 362: Owner, Maison Rose (#21239)

Review by Yvette from VA

3bed/2bath house in Goult in the Luberon, Provence

Goult, France, 1 week

Maison Rose was located in a small village across from the town square and down the street from the local cafe, where the food was plenty and very tasteful. The house was well decorated with plenty of room for 5 or 6 people, it had everything that you would needed to have a quiet and peaceful vacation. The neighbors Yvonne and Jean Paul were very accomodating and helpful in getting us into Mason Rose. They hold the key to the house.

On Tues. Friday and Sat. the pizza man come's to the square his name is Michel and he is very friendly and speaks some english. His pizza's are great. We had them the night we came in and made sure we got back to the house on our last evening to get the pizza again.

Goult is located about 1/2 hour east of Avignon. We were able to go to a couple of local markets which were interesting and fun.

Nearby Amenities

The bakery, small grocery store, the butcher and the local cafe were minutes away from the house. The grocery store had everything that you might need from fresh baked bread to household products, to L'huile d'Olive soap made in the area.

The House/Apartment

This house was once a bakery which still has the oven behind one of the walls. It has all the mordern amenities that you need like dishwasher and washer/dryer. The house is well decorated and very comfotable.

The house has a private garden with a table and chair to enjoy the outdoor, however it was very windy and cool when we were their so we didn't get to enjoy it. We were able to hang out our laundry which was really nice. We did pick a few figs off the fig tree.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

We were five of us and there was plenty of room for all of us to sit around the dinning room table. The house was more than comfortable. The minute you walked in, you felt at home. Susan has done a great job decorating it and giving it that homey feeling.

The bedrooms were very well decorated and the bed were very comfortable. The upstairs bathroom was newly remodeled and done with great taste. The towels were big and soft which is unusual for France.

The kitchen was splendid - it had everything you needed to cook a wonderful meal. The pantry was well stocked with whatever you needed - the rule was you replaced whatever you used up and what more can you ask? All the appliances including the microwave were fairly new.

Problems or Bonuses

Since I rented this house via the internet I expected it to be smaller than it was - when we walked in we were all pleasently surprised at how roomy this house was.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Susan has treated us like we had been long time friends. She went the extra mile to get us our railpasses then make any reservation we needed for the train.

In reading about the house on the internet we fell in love with it - telling you how well Susan accurately described her house.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I enjoyed this house so much and was so excited about it when I got home my two daughters and son want to go with me on my next trip to Goult.

Things to do in this area

There is so much to see in the area; wine caves, markets, churches and most of all the Mediterranean. We would stop at local restaurants as we would go to different cities. The "cafe de post" which is three doors down from Mason Rose in Goult is wonderful, "Rose, The" in La Cicotial which is close to Cassis was great, in Cavaillon the cafe "Le Fin de Siecle" has wonderful Provencial cooking. To be honest we didn't hit one bad place to eat. However it's important to remember that the dejeuner is from 12:30 pm to 2 pm and that dinner is after 7:30 pm. If you get to the cafe after 1:30 pm you might not get good service or even served.
