3bed/2bath apartment in Villeneuve les Avignon, Provence WhenJune, 2008, 1 week LocationGreat location in a charming small town (Villeneuve les Avignon)across the Rhone River from Avignon. Easy to get to by TGV train from Paris, rent a car and explore all of Provence. Nearby AmenitiesEasy walk to all needs -- bakery, grocery and restaurants. We walked to Avignon, which was an easy round trip for us (we're in OK shape), and a great city (our favorite in Provence). The House/ApartmentWas a summer residence for Cardinals when the Papacy was in Avignon. Well laid out, very convenient and charming. We spent many hours in the private patio and garden. Even though quite historic, the kids loved the place as well as the high speed Internet, sat TV and DVDs. You can view the property directly: La Livree. GardenPrivate, shaded and beautiful. We had wine, bread and cheese out there most evenings prior to going to dinner... Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasWould not change a thing. Clean, stylish and comfortable. Bedrooms/BathroomsComfortable for a family of four. All in good shape. KitchenKitchen was well stocked with food and cooking supplies. We made breakfast each morning (after walking to the bakery for fresh bread). Problems or BonusesWe were surprised by how nice the owners were, and by her cat (Charlie) which we looked forward to seeing every morning and evening. High speed Internet and a well stocked kitchen were also pleasant surprises. The only negative was it was hard to find parking on the street for our rental car, but we always managed, and there was a free parking lot 200 meters up the street from the house that we were always able to park in (in season). Agency and Representatives (and price)Doorways Ltd was great to work with. They knew their properties and accurately represented what they were renting, and how the process worked. Every thing they told us was accurate, even to getting our deposit back on time as promised. We'll be using them again. The owners were good people, and their English was far better than my wife's French. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? The only reason I wouldn't go back here next year is we'll probably be staying further south (in Spain). I would rent this home again, and would recommend it to anyone. The combination of location and ambiance is hard to beat. Things to do in this areaAvignon, easy day trips to C-D-Pape for wine lovers, Orange, Nimes, Pont Du Gard, Les Baux, Aix-E-P the beaches and on and on. Provence is a great place to visit, and I think I would like to live there when I have a little more spare time... This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
