Review 3656: Historic Apartments in Paris, Eiffel Tower Invalides
1bed/1bath apartment in 7th arrondissement, Paris
July 2008, one week
The only good thing about this apartment was the location. Directly opposite Rue Cler and above a very good bakery, with several supermarkets nearby. The Ecole Militaire metro station is a minute's walk away, and Line 8 connects with most of the main stations. The Eiffel Tower/Champ du Mars are just around the corner.
The supermarkets were very close and there were plenty of bars, bistros and restaurants to choose from.
The apartment was very small and dirty. The linen and towels smelt musty and bad, the shower was full of mould due to them not having sealed tiles but ones with big holes in them. The plugs in both sinks (kitchen and bathroom) did not work and the shower could not be put on full because the drainage system didn't work quickly enough. The photos and plan of the apartment on the website are taken to make it look bigger than it is, and for four adults it is just not suitable.
At night there was much coming and going and the main door to the apartment shut very noisily.
You can view the property directly: Eiffel Tower Invalides.
The furniture was all very shabby and mixed. The wheels on the sofa bed had broken making it not shut properly, and we had to clear it away every day due to lack of space. This apartment is not suitable for four adults, maybe for two adults, but there are much better apartments available for less money.
The bathroom was very small and musty. I am small but both the men found that there wasn't enough room in the bathroom and my mother hurt her back trying to move in the confined space. The bathroom was also very damp and the ventilation fan ineffective. It also had a small window which opened onto the kitchen area. In fact, I don't think it fair to call it a bathroom at all, it was more like a cupboard.
The pans were of poor quality and there were only two plates so the other two adults had to use bowls. We had to wash these between courses. The kitchen was just about usable for preparing snacks but there was no preparation area as the lift-up extension to the work surface was broken.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
We were supposed to rent Louvre 5 but when we turned up the owner said that we had been double booked. They offered us this other apartment, which they say sleeps four (with absolutely no privacy!) and offered us a refund of €200 making the total cost of our stay €790. I have since checked their website and this apartment should actually have only cost €550 but what were we to do, it was a Saturday afternoon the weekend before Bastille Day. I would never rent from these people and would encourage everyone else to be careful. I could not find any reviews of their apartments except for one warning on trip advisor that they were slow to refund the €350 security deposit which they require to be paid in cash but refund via Paypal.
The owner, when meeting us and telling us of the problem would not look us in the eye. Do not rent from these people.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Absolutely not - I wouldn't tell my worst enemy to stay here. Avoid at all costs.
Things to do in this area
The patisserie downstairs was lovely, especially the Framboisine.
