Review 3674: Henrietta Taylor, Rose Cottage
2bed/2bath house in Saignon, Provence
March 2008, One Week
Rose Cottage, located in the village of Saignon, is a charming place that is fully equipped for all types of travelers. Saignon is a very old hillside village. The view is spectacular coming up to the village from the road. To get to the house itself, we were challenged by a very narrow road. We were advised to park in the church's parking lot and not to attempt to drive up next to the house. Good advice! We tried to drive up to the house and got stuck the day we arrived! Fortunately a friendly local resident graciously offered to back our rental car out of the wedge I had put the car into. It didn't take her but a moment to do so! Then I followed Henrietta's advice and parked at the church the remaining week of our stay. It was only a mere five minute walk to the church anyway. Not a bit of a problem.
There is a local cafe and hotel nearby, which serve meals. For groceries we went into Apt, a nearby town and the local markets which were incredible.
On the day of our arrival Henrietta offered to provide food. We were expecting only a few items, but we had food for several meals -- eggs, cheese, bread, a roasted chicken, jam, butter, pastries, milk, tea, coffee, strawberries, etc. In past travels finding an open store on the day of arrival has proven to be a challenge, so having food already in the house was very convenient and appreciated.
Henrietta also had waiting for us a beautiful vase of fresh cut roses on the dining table and a bottle of wine. What a great welcome we felt when we arrived!
The house itself is old but the inside has every modern convenience.
The weather was not conducive for us to sit outside so we didn't use the small table and chairs provided.
The house was immaculate and comfortable. The furnishings were tasteful. There was seating for four at the dining table and two sofas in the living room area.
Everything was provided in the kitchen and bathrooms from every dish, utensil, towel, soap, etc., that you might need. There were even bathrobes in the bedrooms.
What we noticed was not only were there a washer and dryer, but they worked great! Laundry soap was provided.
The two bedrooms were quite large. Each bedroom has its own bath but the bathrooms were very small -- a shower, toilet and sink.
The kitchen had everything a person might need to cook a meal. Everything was in good condition and quite new.
Problems or Bonuses
We had no unpleasant surprises at Rose Cottage -- everything was great.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rose Cottage and would go back. It was a bit cool for us in March. We would prefer it to be a bit warmer, but we did not have to fight any tourists!
Things to do in this area
I would recommend having your own car while staying at Rose Cottage. There is no public transportation to the village of Saignon. My wife and I enjoyed taking day trips around the Luberon including vineyards and markets in the area.
We especially enjoyed visiting Cassis, which is a couple hours away from Saignon.
