Review 3707: Centre Paris, Aboukir 4

Review by PARISLOVER from UK

studio apartment in 2nd arrondissement, Paris

July 2008, 8 nights

The studio is very central in the 2nd arrondissement. I really liked the location in the garment district. Safe and quiet but not dead. Traditional narrow Paris street lots of clothes shops. First floor walk up, two easy flights of stairs. Velib park for cycles opposite.

This is one of four similar studios on the same floor, Aboukir 4 overlooks the courtyard at the back.

Approximately 10 minutes walk to Louvre, Seine, Centre Pompidou. Easy to get to all parts of the city within 15 minutes maximum.

Nearby Amenities

Equidistant between market streets of Rue Montorguiel and Rue du Srasbourg St-Denis, four minutes walk either way. Very well served for all kinds of shops cafes restaurants etc. Three metros and bus routes also four minutes walk. Well served for transport links.

The House/Apartment

At street level there is a clothes shop at the entrance to the passage to the stairway. There is a uninspiring metal gate, which is locked at night, accessible by key code.

The studio is one of four similar studios on the first floor. The studio over looks the courtyard and is overlooked by other apartments opposite. Voile curtains maintain privacy.

There is some "city" noise. Distant traffic and sounds from around, birds, baby crying in the distance etc, but we had the windows open because it was summer. The double glazing is very effective when closed. We did not hear any noise from the other studios on the floor.

You can view the property directly: Aboukir 4.

No outside space. There was a very nice Acer tree outside the window and ivy growing up the walls.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The studio has been renovated since the illustration on the website. New easy to clean, grey floor tiles and walls painted light grey. Kitchen newly tiled and new worktops. Large chocolate brown sofa bed, extremely comfortable to sit and sleep on.

Comfortable king size bed. Very clever coffee table that opened up into a table that would comfortably seat four. Four folding chairs. Second coffee table, wardrobe held enough clothes for two for a week with shelving. TV, radio, clock, phone charger, hairdryer, phone.

Comfortable beds, however when the sofa bed was pulled out the person in the large bed had to climb over to get to the bathroom as the wardrobe was in the way.

Small shower room with spacious shower, good water pressure and plenty of hot water. The heated towel rail was useful.

The kitchen runs the length of the room. Well equipped with pots and pans, coffee maker, kettle, toaster, table top oven/grill. No grill pan or oven tray provided. (I have notified the agency) Efficient full size dishwasher. Good size sink. We managed to make several meals in the kitchen area.

Problems or Bonuses

When we arrived, late at night we were a little unsure which was our studio as the doors on the landing were not clearly marked, I have notified the agency of this problem.

The studio was more spacious than I imagined, the high ceilings gave it a spacious feel.

The drain blocked on the second day and was quickly rectified by the agency. The original towels supplied were not of good quality and I bought my own from the local Monoprix. Later I found much nicer towels in the laundry room. There was a laundry room/storage room where there was extra towels and bedding and where you could store suitcases.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Dealings with the agency were very efficient. Good English spoken. I did not have a lot of contact with the on site person, I rang them to tell them about the blocked drain and they came to unblock it while we were out.

The studio has been renovated in January 2008 and is much nicer than on the website.

We paid 60 per night for July. There was no security deposit and an optional 25 cleaning fee. I took the cleaning fee option and so I suppose you are relying on the person before you but the studio was clean. I would have complained if the studio had been dirty!

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

This is a no frills budget studio, which represents very good value for money in central Paris and I would stay again. As tourists in Paris we spend very little time in the apartment and so this was perfect for our needs.

I would recommend this studio to my best friend if they did not expect luxury but required a clean, comfortable well maintained studio in a central area. There were two of us and I feel more persons would make the studio crowded.
